About the event
Using items found at the scrapyard, Schrottpresse creates art, everyday objects and imaginative products – whilst you learn useful metalworking skills. To help you learn how to cut, weld and grind, the Schrottpresse provides a safe environment for everyone, regardless of background, gender or previous experience. The workshop usually works like this: you arrive and, after a round of introductions, you’ll first receive an introduction to welding techniques – such as hand position, settings and materials – as well as safety precautions. You’ll also be introduced to all the other tools needed for metalworking, such as angle grinders, grinders and drills, and will have the chance to practise using them safely.
Once you feel confident, you can get creative and rummage through the hand-picked scrap parts in the scrap press. There are no limits here – you can join, separate, cut with a blowtorch and shape the metals. Perhaps you’d like to create a rusty ashtray, an apocalyptic coat hook, a Mad Max-style fruit bowl or a fantasy figure.
If you have any questions, the workshop leaders at Schrottpresse are always on hand to offer advice.
