Don’t replace. Adapt.
Rethinking furniture through circular design

About the event
What if furniture could adapt to us, rather than being replaced, when our needs change?
At Smyrna Design, we explore how furniture can adapt to changing lifestyles through modularity, multifunctionality, reparability and circular design. Rather than designing products for a single purpose or a limited lifespan, we envisage furniture that evolves alongside its users, whilst keeping the materials in use for as long as possible.
As part of Looptopia in Berlin, we invite you to explore this idea in a creative, hands-on workshop in collaboration with OK LABs. Using leftover materials from our design and production processes, we will experiment with new forms, functions and possibilities, and transform the leftover pieces into small products and pieces of furniture.
Together, we will rethink the relationship between furniture, materials and everyday life – and discover how design can help bring about change by preventing waste, extending the lifespan of products and creating new value from what we already have.
The idea is simple: don’t replace what can be adapted. Don’t waste what can be reused. Design for change.
Join us and help shape a future in which furniture evolves alongside us and materials always have the potential for a second life.
