About the event

Every day, tonnes of surplus food are thrown away and destroyed in Berlin. Fresh, edible food that could help many Berliners affected by poverty if it were distributed properly. This is a task that Berliner Tafel e.V. has been successfully undertaking since 1993. From managers to stay-at-home dads, a diverse team of volunteers sorts an equally varied selection of rescued fruit and vegetables at Berlin’s wholesale market in accordance with current food safety standards. As part of this, they pre-pack food bags and crates for distribution to Berliners affected by poverty and to social organisations, whilst also carrying out other important tasks at the Berliner Tafel’s central warehouse. To do this, they need your support. Come along and experience volunteering at the Berliner Tafel. To take part, you should be at least 18 years old, in reasonably good physical fitness, interested in handling food, and have no qualms about coming into contact with produce that is, in some cases, no longer edible. No previous experience is necessary. We’ll email you all the important information about the volunteer role once you’ve registered, and you’ll receive a briefing on the tasks on the day.
